5 Senses #3 with Jenn Roberts

We're back with another installment of our interview series, "5 Senses". Inspired by the 5 senses meditation method- bringing awareness to what you can see, taste, hear, smell and touch- we'll be talking to women in our Lake Jane community who inspire us.

Jenn Roberts is a NYC-based photographer who recently took a magical trip to Spain.  She spent some quality time in the Picos de Europa National Park in Northern Spain.  Here, some notes from her "10/10" trip and a stunning visual diary:

1. What are you reading?
I blew through Life is Elsewhere by Milan Kundera during this trip, and was very disappointed upon finishing it since I didn't think to bring another book! It was an amazing story, and I caught myself opening it to get a few pages in when filling up for gas or waiting for a coffee. I haven't been that invested in a book in a very long time, and I am definitely planning on reading The Joke in the coming months, since I have heard it is very similar!

2. What are you eating/what food is inspiring you?
One of my favorite meals on this trip was surprisingly from the kitchen at a mountain refuge! We visited tons of incredible 5 star restaurants in San Sebastian, but the potato and chorizo soup from a hostel was one of my favorite meals from the trip. All it consisted of was chopped chorizo, large chunks of potato, and chicken broth. It was so incredibly simple, but all the flavors combined in a perfect way and made a super hearty and delicious soup. We ate a big pot of it at a table with 4 strangers and talked about the differences between the states and Europe until 11 pm.
3. What are you listening to?
I was listening to the new Bon Iver EP, SABLE, constantly. I always find myself playing his music when driving through the mountains. Along with his new stuff, I also had the entire For Emma album on repeat, because a good road trip is nothing without it.
4. What are you touching with your hands these days?
I was touching my camera a lot! I haven't had the time to shoot photos just for fun in a while, so I was constantly picking up my camera on this trip. I also pet a lot of grass on this trip. The Picos has very soft grass, and in the morning it has a delightful amount of dew.
5. What are the smells of your day?
This isn't for everyone, but the smell of the horses on this trip was what brought me the most joy! I was a die-hard horse girl growing up, but I don't get to interact with horses much these days since I live in NYC. A HUGE group of horses came right up to us on our first day of hiking, and one in particular was insanely loving and friendly. She was with a foal and also pregnant, and she followed me around after I helped her scratch an itch on her back. I spent about an hour with her in total, and my jacket cuff smelled intensely of horse for the rest of the trip.

Thank you, Jenn!
